Westood is a borough in central Bergen County with a population of around 11,000 people. It covers an area of 2.3 square miles. Surrounding the borough is Hillsdale to the northwest and Paramus to the south. Within the area you can find places like Westwood Cinemas, Hiram Blauvelt Art Museum and Fritz Deitl Ice Rink. Before the area became known as Westwood, the land was inhabited by the Lenni-Lenape Native Americans during the 18th century. One of the first permanent settlers in the area was a man named Isaac Bogert, who purchased 500 acres of land in the late 18th century. The Bogert family is well known in Westwood to this day, which is why you can find their name on streets and landmarks throughout the borough. Westwood is known for their holiday activities, most notably is their annual winter “Home for the Holidays” parade. While Westwood has an official Police force, all the members of their Fire Department and Ambulance Corps are volunteers.
